Award-winner German makeup artist Bettina Schütze, who has already worked on campaigns for major national and international brands such as Nivea, Palmolive, Nestle International, Bradesco, Oi, TAM, Guarana, as well as fashion editorials of major magazines of the world, as American Elle, Vogue, Marie Claire, England GD, Gatsby and Sexy, among others, is currently living in Brazil, and was consulted by cosmeticos br about makeup for women over 50 years old.
Our purpose here is to know what we have and what we don’t have on makeup products and other anti-aging resources that can help in the makeup of women 50 to 80 years old. Women who feel themselves beautiful and are vain, but that does not count after all with so many products in the Brazilian market, specifics for this age group.
1 - What is more important in a makeup?
Important for me in makeup of women of any age - from 20 to 80 - is skin preparation.
Clean skin allows the makeup to spread in a uniform and natural way, while tonifying it provides freshness, calmness and relaxing face. Hydration is also important. Besides smoothing expression lines, it protects skin from external damage and dryness.
However, there are still resources, which I call ‘secret weapons’ that women over 50´s can count on to feel beautiful and secure about its makeup. They can and should be applied after moisturizer or anti-aging cream (with sun filters): they are the prime products, or wrinkle fillers which helps to uniform skin (some very good ones also help tensing it), besides helping to fix the makeup. Another feature is products with tensor effect or immediate lifting, which help to define face contours and there are still the formidable products that delivers volume, especially to the lips.
2 - Can you name some products that you use on work, in other words which are effective to improve skin appearance?
Some products that I use: Avon Magix, que foi lançado no ano passado aqui no Brasil; Contém 1g also has a very good prime product. I´m enjoying quite a lot Perfectionist [CP+], a new Estée Lauder product, which is a serum wrinkles lifting fills wrinkles and leaves skin beautiful, with vitality and has a complement of it that was launched now - Perfectionist [CP+], a deep wrinkle filler, there is also Filextra, by GoodSkin Labs, which is very interesting, a face treatment that provides volume where gravity gave up and also hydrates. There is yet Instant Wrinkle Deliner, by Juvena, for any kind of skin. It is a stick which improves the appearance of expression lines, it also leaves skin more radiant and along the time it will even improving wrinkles. There is also Maybeline. .. products whose consistency even help to soften wrinkles and lines.
For lips, I use several, but the Repairwear Intensive Lip Treatment, by Clinique is very good. It is a gel which repairs mouth lines, inclusive those fuzz area, close to the upper lips.
Some of these products I use even on girls of 20 year old, who are tired or with very accentuated wrinkles. In women over 50´s these products help on daily use to fix the makeup, especially here in Brazil which is very hot and makeup melts. These products leave skin face with more vitality and also more stretched.

3 – And how about the foundations and face powders for women over 50´s? Do they bring any differentiation?
Foundations should be applied after these products “helpers”. Products more liquid, hydrating and with a fine, and light texture are more indicated. It should be applyed with large brushes. Among makeup products for skin Giorgio Armani brand is a brand reference. It has fantastic products, such as Fluid Sheer, which is a lightening and translucid foundation, with versatile variations, it even helps to lift the skin. All make up artists adores it. Estée Lauder, L´Oreal, Oil of Olaz, Givenchy, Helena, Rubinstein, Lancome – all these brands have foundations with some kind of active that attenuates wrinkles and expression lines.
Just one remark about powders: insteat women disguise face shine putting many times compact powder or losen powder, which can accentuate wrinkles, is better to put over the face these absorbent papers which several brands in Brazil already disposes –Boticario, Natura, Contem 1 g...
Yves Saint Laurent also have excellent face skin products, specially the small concealer pens in four shades, which takes away eye shadows, erases tiredness signals and it is possible to use with or without makeup. It is indeed a concealer, a very practical little pen.
Giorgio Armani has a liquid concealer Máster Corrector in four shades: rose, orange, yellow and green. The yellow takes blue dark circles, neutralizes, for foundation application that follows. But the other tones also correct problems as redness. It disguises imperfections and have reflecting pearls, which disguises lines.
4 – What to do with eyebrows that are becoming sparse?
The eyebrow is the frame, not only of the eyes, but of the face. For those who do not have much hair, the pigments of the shadows help on giving volume. It is just use with a little bit of water and to apply with very thin brush, making little risks. For those who have already lost many hair, I recommend a good tattoo artist, especially by the variety of possible colors, including for those who already have them white. And also because the eyebrows line does not run with sweat. Estée Lauder has a very good eyebrow pencil, it is soft, does not run and has a great variety of colors, which is an important point for eyebrows that are getting white either blonde, brunette or black women.
5 – To the ladies are allowed all eyeshadow shades?
Of course yes, even older women should express themselves according to how she feels. However, as she keeps loosing skin firmness, she should take advantage of colors to cause an effect of lifting the eyelids. They are little tricks that she should learn and develop for herself, according to her style, with the concept that it has created for herself. Light colors increase and dark colors lessen - this is a basic rule. The other rule is shading always. The key of any makeup is shading. She can even use a dark tone, but should shade. If you like blue, go ahead, since with moderation and smudging always.
With age, eyes diminishes. What those older women can do is to highlight the outline - and smudging it, of course. And they can use a lot of eye mask, to curb and elongate lashes. It is important to use shadows that fixes.

6 – Are the eyelashes a problem with ageing?
With ageing eyelashes diminishes, but some products can be used to increase them. It was developed a very good product, which contains an active ingredient used in ophthalmology, adapted to cosmetic application –M2Lashes Eyelash Activating Serum. It increases the number of lashes and makes lashes also increase size. It is fantastic!
But eyelash mask is important in any age.
7 - There is any product recommendation in relation to the blushes?
Blush leaves face appearance fresh and models the contour. It is possible to use only a powder a few tones darker than the skin, applied with a big brush, and it is indicated products that shines. Light particles can enter into the wrinkles and the effect is a disaster.

8 – How to make your lips beautiful after 60 years old?
For the mouth is important to apply a ‘primer’ before, or, as I have indicated before a special product. I use Repairwear Intensive Lip Treatment by Clinique, which is also a treatment for this area. The Contem 1g have also launched a ‘primer’ for lips with an optical disguise. Then the contour pencil for the lips, which may even be out of fashion, but it helps, defines contour, which with time is inexact. It can be applied a little bit, but even a little above the lip line, to make them slightly larger. I usually apply the same tone all over the lip and then to apply a lipstick. It is recommended using creamy and shimmering lipsticks than applying liquid lipsticks or glosses, because they can enter wrinkles and it is a disaster. This latest collection of Natura Diversa which was launched recently are very good, has soft colors and its mat. Avon Ultra Color Rich is the same thing.
I recommend yet that you use a makeup fixer so it does not smudge and will not run, especially here in Brazil, where the weather is hot. I use Makeup Forever and one of Contem 1g.
